sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
of your despatches No.161 of June 11th and No.179 of June 25th forwarding copies of correspondence with Sir F. T. Piggott with regard to the amount of his pension.

I am unable to agree with Sir F. T. Piggott's views. £1000 is £1000 whether it is paid from one source or from several and I can see no reason whatever for allowing a man to draw a larger pension because his service has been divided among several Colonies than he would receive if all his service had been in Hongkong.
3.
The adoption of Sir F. T. Piggott's "monthly method" of calculating the increase due would obviously involve a considerable amount of work on the part of the Crown Agente Office and I can see no reason for imposing
this duty on them.
4.
Sir F. T. Piggott, to judge from the language which he uses, has overlooked the fact that the grant of these increases is an act of grace.
5.
I take this opportunity of asking whether you can inform me of the results of the bankruptcy
